Ververica Academy wants you to learn VVP through hands-on experience with the product, with short lectures only when needed to provide context and background. For this reason, we provide you with one week access to an AWS EKS cluster. After a short introduction and AWS CLI setup, you'll hit the ground running with your VVP 3.x installation!

During this three day hands-on course, you'l get experience with all of the following:

• INSTALLATION
  • Install VVP 3.x
  • Learn about the individual components of VVP
    Learn how VVP interacts with the provided AWS EKS Kubernetes Cluster
• DEPLOYMENT
  • Deploy Java and SQL Flink jobs manually with Ververica UI
  • Use the Kubernetes Operator to deploy and manage Flink jobs
  • Use the REST API and vvctl to manage Flink jobs
• SECURITY
  • Learn about Authentication, Authorization, and API Tokens
  • Enable OIDC with AWS Cognito (Authentication)
  • Map users and groups to roles (Authorization)
  • Enable Auditing and export logs to Kafka
• MONITORING
  • Install Prometheus and configure Flink jobs for metrics export
  • Install Grafana and use Flink dashboards to monitor jobs
• TROUBLESHOOTING
  • Troubleshoot pods not starting
  • Troubleshoot jobs not outputting results

If you have little previous experience with Flink or Kubernetes, that's ok! The course includes step-by-step videos and we're always here to help!

Prerequisites

What you need to provide:

1. Dedicated time to complete the course (~15 hours in one week). The Kubernetes cluster provided to complete the course is only available for one week. Please contact Ververica Academy if you need to delay your start date. We will delete and recreate the Kubernetes cluster when you are ready to complete the course.

2. Ability to install AWS CLI to complete all hands-on activities. You will be installing VVP in an AWS EKS cluster provided by Ververica Academy. Access to this cluster is through AWS CLI.

3. Ability to install kubectl (+/- 1 minor version from 1.34).

What Ververica Academy provides:

1. All cluster resources required to complete your first installation of VVP (EKS cluster, s3 bucket, MySQL database, etc.). With these resources already provisioned, we will hit the ground running with the VVP installation. The course describes exactly what resources have already been provisioned.

2. A fun learning experience.

Course Pacing

You have one week to complete the course. Ververica Academy will checkin with you daily to see if you are progressing in the course. If you must delay your start or are unable to continue after starting, please inform Ververica Academy at academy@ververica.com. We will destroy your EKS Cluster resources and recreate them when you are ready to restart the course.

Grading

Grading consists of both Knowledge Checks and Challenges found throughout the course. You must receive an overall grade of 75% or more to receive your completion badge.

Knowledge Checks (25% of overall grade)

There are 2 Knowledge Checks in the course. These are in Module 1 and Module 7. These modules do not contain hands-on exercises and are informational.

Challenges (75% of overall grade)

There are 5 Challenges found in the course. If you follow along with the videos, you shouldn't have any trouble completing the challenges. And if you do run into any issues, we're here to help! You don't need to submit anything for the Challenges. In the "Finishing Up" module, you will find a "Submit for Grading" section. Complete this section to indicate to Ververica Academy that your cluster is ready for grading.
